Myspace launches a new version of its website with new features.
Myspace has concluded the launch of a beta version of its website that includes new features aimed at creating a destination of social entertainment for the young generation between 13 – 35 years. Struggling with dwindling numbers of active users, Myspace has been left to play second fiddle to Facebook which is said to have surpassed it by the number of active monthly users in the year 2008. All this is happening at a time when the number of internet visitors for the whole world has gone up by 10 percent and the average time spent on the internet surfing also soared 3-1 percent according to comScore.
The beta version that went live on 27th October 2010 is going to be available to users around the whole world towards the end of November while new users will enjoy immediate access to the new version.
The new interface enables users who are registered to toggle switch betwixt 3 distinct views: a “magazine like” grid view, traditional list and a play view that allows for users to tweak their updates like forwarding and resizing to full screen besides watching them.
Notable new features in the site’s beta version include:
- Content hubs – Using content from various partners, this feature will be dedicated to television, movies, celebrities and news, video and photo features.
- Personalized streams – Based on user habits and preferences these streams will learn automatically what to feature.
- Discovery tab – This tab will always be accessible and its main task is to show in real time what friends are watching as well as what is trending big on Myspace.
Myspace also plans to release the beta site’s mobile version that will be accessible on most mobile browsers. This will be followed by new Myspace applications for iPhones and Android based gadgets later in the year.
With such efforts, analysts await to see if Myspace will regain its long lost glory in the social media world.
